Sydney Sweeney breaks silence on controversial American Eagle ad, addresses Donald Trump’s support

Sydney Sweeney broke her silence surrounding her controversial American Eagle jeans ad and President Trump’s support.

During a cover story interview with GQ, the “Euphoria” actress was asked if she was “surprised” by the mixed reaction to the denim campaign, which was accused of being “Nazi propaganda.”

“I did a jean ad,” she said matter-of-factly. “I mean, the reaction definitely was a surprise. But it was … I love jeans!”

Sweeney, 28, then suggested that she participated in the campaign because of how much she loves wearing denim.

“All I wear are jeans. I’m literally in jeans and a T-shirt like every day of my life,” she gushed.

The “Anyone But You” star was also asked how she felt about Trump praising her ad in August.

“It was surreal,” she simply said with a smile.

When the interviewer asked Sweeney if she felt “thankful” that a powerful person like the President of the United States “had [her] back in public,” she replied, “Hm, I don’t think that … it’s not that I didn’t have that feeling but I wasn’t thinking of it like that, of any of it.”

Sweeney also noted that she wasn’t bothered by the backlash because she had “put [her] phone away” while filming the third and final season of “Euphoria.”

“I’m working like 16-hour days and I don’t really bring my phone on set,” she shared. “So, I work and then I go home and I go to sleep. So, I didn’t really see a lot of it.”
