Possible Jeff McNeil trade partners include potentially surprising free agent spender

While the Mets can’t discount an outside possibility that they may not find a workable deal for Jeff McNeil, the Mariners and Pirates are among potential landing spots. 

The Mets are putting the best face on the current situation by stressing McNeil’s versatility, but it would behoove all parties to move him to a team where he wouldn’t project as an unhappy backup. 

The Pirates are aiming even higher as they move seriously into free agent waters for the first time in a decade; they’re pursuing Kyle Schwarber and J.T. Realmuto, among others.
