Owner dumps dogs in woods—heartbreaking story takes unexpected turn
After learning about a pair of abandoned puppies, a woman from West Virginia came to the rescue—and shared heartwarming footage of the little canines.
In a viral clip shared on TikTok on October 18 under the username @griffeychronicles, the poster ventures into the woods where the puppies were abandoned, trying to take them away to safety.
“I [saw] a Facebook reel of a lady caught dumping her dogs and couldn’t stop thinking about them. I knew I had to go and see if I could catch them. I knew it would only get harder to do with time, or they would get killed”, she writes in the post.
“So, I drove [to] the area they were dumped, and they were still there waiting. They spent the night there, and waited for their owners to come back. I don’t understand. You just turn your dog out, drive off, go to sleep at night, and just… Forget about them?”
After spending ages trying to convince the puppies to get close, even tempting them with small pieces of ham, the poster finally manages to get their trust.
“It took about an hour… But I caught them. They didn’t want to leave, they wanted you, they wanted home. But they deserve home,” she wrote.
The poster successfully managed to take the puppies to safety, and will soon be re-homing them.
“I won’t ever understand how you do this, yes, shelters are full, yes, you deal with c*** when you post your animals for rehoming. But the answer should never be to just set them out and them figure it out. How?!,” the caption says.
“Thankfully, these babies have rescue and will find good homes. so many aren’t so lucky. I hate it for our animals.”
According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), almost 3 million homeless dogs entered shelters across the country in 2024, and not all of them were lucky enough to find a new home.
Statistics shared on their website shows that only approximately 2 million dogs were adopted last year, 554,000 were returned to their owner, 524,000 were transferred to other organizations, and 334,000 were euthanized.
Euthanasia in shelter often happens because of lack of space, caused by the continuous influx of new puppies being found or surrendered every day.
The video quickly went viral on social media and has so far received over 1.7 million views and 289,800 likes on the platform.
