Notre Dame set to lose team captain

Notre Dame is losing several key offensive players before the 2026 NFL Draft.

Earlier this week, running backs Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price revealed their plans to enter the draft. Those two players were key to keeping the Fighting Irish in the College Football Playoff hunt until the selection committee bumped them out of the final bracket.

On Saturday, ND learned its team captain is set to jump into the league this offseason.

Per Pete Sampson of The Athletic, right tackle Aamil Wagner declared for the 2026 NFL Draft.

On his Instagram page, Wagner expressed his appreciation for playing at Notre Dame.

“I want to start off by thanking God for giving me the opportunity to play the sport I love at a place like Notre Dame, surrounded by the people I love the most,” Wagner wrote. “The past four years spent at Notre Dame have been a remarkable experience and I wouldn’t change a single thing.

“The memories I’ve made with teammates, staff, and friends on campus will last me a lifetime. Notre Dame has given so much to me and I was honored to be able to serve as one of the captains for the 2025 team.”

Wagner thanked head coach Marcus Freeman and his staff for developing him into one of the best offensive tackles in the country.

“To Notre Dame, Coach Freeman’s Staff, and the O-line room: thank you for accepting me as family,” Wagner wrote. “Thank you for allowing me to grow and become the man I am today. And lastly, thank you for making this college experience some of the best years of my life.

“After much prayer and thought, I have decided to pursue my dreams by declaring for the NFL draft. I am extremely excited for the next step in my journey, but Notre Dame will always be home.”
