AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Police Department said it will hold a press conference Tuesday afternoon about an Aug. 28 shooting in which officers fired their guns. One person died and another was injured, according to Police Chief Lisa Davis.

Davis said previously that APD officers approached an armed robbery suspect who “drew a handgun from his waistband,” Davis said. A bystander then “tackled” the suspect to the ground.

She said that officers shot at the suspect, who died at the scene. The bystander was shot in the shoulder, but APD hasn’t yet said if the bullet came from the suspect’s or officers’ guns.

APD placed at least one officer on administrative leave after the shooting.

The press conference and a “material release” is scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday. Davis said previously that video related to the shooting would be released.

This is a developing story. Check back later for updates.
