Austin Community College expands support for student-parents
AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin Community College District (ACC) said it launched new Family Resource Corners to help student-parents—an initiative made possible by a $20,000 grant.
The corners, which are now at ACC Highland and Round Rock campuses, provide supplies such as diapers, wipes and menstrual products to students.
“When a parent can pick up diapers or period products on campus, that’s one less worry and one more reason to stay in school,” said Cara Crowley, special advisor to the chancellor for Basic Needs Systems. “These resources represent care, community, and the belief that every student deserves the opportunity to succeed.”
ACC said nearly one in three students at its campuses are parents, many of whom “face challenging choices between caring for their families and remaining enrolled in classes.”
