5 arrested related to early-August homicide investigation

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Police Department said five people were arrested in connection with an Aug. 3 homicide investigation.

According to APD, Alejandro Hurtado-Reyes, 22, Yanaris Reyes, 29, Antonio Gonzalez, 17, Yurisander Gongora Rojas, 19, and Hector Yohany Achang Batlle, 19, have all been charged with capital murder.

The charges were related to the death of 49-year-old Miguel Mondragon, who was found with gunshot wounds in the 9800 block of North Interstate 35 service road heading north.

Police said an investigation showed Mondragon and a second victim pulled into a parking lot after leaving a nearby club when two vehicles with multiple suspects blocked them in.

APD said those suspects approached the victim’s car with guns and demanded their property, which was when Mondragon tried to run away and was shot.

According to police, the other robbery victims drove away, and the suspects took Mondragon’s property from him.

APD said this case was being investigated as Austin’s 37th homicide of 2025.
